A modern-day film noir and tale of crime, corruption and cover-ups that brings a 20-year-old cold case crashing into the present day, “The Black Minutes” turns on a world weary cop and serial killer confronting past crimes that have tied them together for many years.

Adapting the same-titled novel by Martin Solares, “The Black Minutes” is directed by Mario Muñoz, who debuted with acclaimed crime thriller “Bajo la Sal.” Muñoz and Solares wrote the screenplay.

“ ‘The Black Minutes’ explores the trials of a journalist and policeman trying to discover the truth,” said its producer Pablo Cruz (“Miss Bala”).

A thriller-action film channeling classic film noir, “The Black Minutes” reflects on police ethics, corruption, the state of journalism in Mexico, he added.  “Journalism has become the most dangerous profession in Mexico,” Cruz declared, noting that more than 100 journalists have been killed in recent years.
